Would you like to dive in the waters of the island with the greatest marine wealth in the Canary archipelago. Discover the fabulous fauna that hides underneath the sea outside Fuerteventura. Marine biological wealth of the island Fuerteventura in holds the top position of the archipelago for the practice of diving. One of the most used coastal locations for this sport is Corralejo which, along with Isla de Lobos, make up the most favorable area for this activity thanks to its shallow depth and its sea of transparent waters. You can find horse mackerel, bream sargas, parrot fish, red mullet, barracudas in shallow areas and groupers, canary lobsters, sprouts, moray eels, in deeper areas. To enjoy this activity, you can go to some of the diving centres that offer their services on the island. They will inform you and guide you to perform the dive safely, fun and according to your experience. Whether you are a beginner or expert, you will find ideal areas to dive along the entire coastline of Fuerteventura. Have you never dived and you want to try it. In the especializad centres they will give you the required training to dive. After a theoretical and practical class, you will be ready to submerge up to 32,80 feet deep. Are you an advanced diver. In the Calamareo reef, there is a grotto accessed by descending 105 feet vertically through a gorge, at which point the underwater curve opens and you will continue swimming along a reef. In the background you can see eagle rays flying over the sand… To be able to enjoy this experience it will be convenient to use Nitrox that will allow you a longer immersion time. If you want to dive in Spain To be able to carry out this activity it’s necessary to have accident insurance and a medical certificate with an antiquity of less than 2 years. If you already have the title that accredits you for the practice of this sport, we recommend you do it under the supervision of qualified personnel with experience in the area where you will perform the dive for your safety. And if you go with children, Snorkel for the whole family If you have children, an activity that will be entertaining for the whole family is snorkeling. In the especializad centres they will provide you with all the equipment to practice this activity safely. They will take you to enjoy some fun hours where you can, along with your children, swim in shallow and crystalline waters, discover fish of all colours, starfishes, clams, crabs and meet other inhabitants of the sea. A surprising experience for them that they won’t ever forget. The snorkel is suitable for children from 5 years and doesn’t require experience, so you can enjoy the expedition by the sea with no troubles.

Fuerteventura is an excellent place for Snorkeling and Scuba Diving. The warm semi tropical seas support a array of sea life. The main fishing industry was supported by shellfish and crustations and other species like Tuna Dorada, Mullet, Barracuda, Parrot fish and various other edible varieties. Barracuda Sardines However the biggest bounty was during the Sardine season from September – March where they would be caught by the million. These fish supported whole communities and was an extremely important resource for the locals. Every year the final event of the Carnival is the funeral of the Sardine. Fuerteventura has sea life that can be classified into around 390 species of fish which are grouped into 117 families. The crustaceans are represented by a whole multitude of species. The majority of species are ‘Creole’ bound to the island for their whole life.

One of the biggest dreams of children is seeing dolphins. Seeing them swimming freely in the unspoilt ocean is an experience that adults will never forget. You can just buy a ticket for an excursion with Fuertecharter. The tour starts by embarking from the port of Corralejo, and is designed for everyone to have fun, both adults and children. It will be very easy to find a group of dolphins playing around the catamaran you are sailing on. Seeing them is an incredible experience, but spotting a whale is truly a breathtaking moment. These majestic aquatic mammals swim in the waters around Fuerteventura between spring and summer. So which cetaceans can you spot on an excursion with Fuertecharter: Bottlenose Dolphin, Pilot Whale, Common dolphin, Striped dolphin. In addition, many birds can be sighted during our excursion. The experience doesn’t end here, because on this excursion we will also take you to relax in front of the island of Lobos.

Fish species found in the islands include many species of shark, ray, moray eel, bream, jack, grunt, scorpionfish, triggerfish, grouper, goby, and blenny. In addition, there are many invertebrate species including octopus, cuttlefish, sponge, jellyfish, anemone, crab, mollusc, sea urchin, starfish, sea cucumber, and coral. A hawksbill turtle, one of the marine turtle species found in the Canary Islands Five species of marine turtle are present in the archipelago: the loggerhead (the most common species), green, hawksbill, leatherback, and Kemp's ridley turtle. The lime urchin, rapidly becoming overabundant in the Canary Islands due to fishing of its natural predators. By far the most commonly seen invertebrate in Canary Island waters, the lime urchin is an important herbivore. Populations of these creatures have increased rapidly within recent years, primarily due to overfishing of their natural predators, such as starfish, triggerfish and Triton's trumpet. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are one of the few remaining locations with a substantial population of angelsharks. The basking shark, a harmless plankton feeder, visits the island in large groups during the winter, but is rarely seen. The common smooth-hound comes close to shore in the late summer to breed, but is too small to be dangerous to humans. The hammerhead shark (Sphyrna zygaena) is another fish eater, and is sometimes encountered while fishing.
